Objectives for PM&R
Upon completion of the rotation, the medical student should be able to:
1.Be able to describe the principle roles of a physiatrist in the following settings: inpatient, outpatient, consultative service and electromyography service.
2. Elicit a functional history from patients that have disabling conditions such as stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, neuromuscular disorders, musculoskeletal injury, and amputation.
3. Demonstrate ability to carry out neurologic and musculoskeletal examinations on patients with disabling conditions.
4. Design a basic rehabilitation plan for patients with disabling conditions.
5. Participate in a Physiatric outpatient clinic, assisting with the development of rehabilitation treatment plans that are the most cost effective and best tolerated.
6. Problem solve with an electrodiagnostician performing nerve conduction studies/EMG testing while learning when to refer and the general strengths and limitations of such testing.
7. Student will gain knowledge in common pieces of equipment in community resources
that may be beneficial to persons with a disability.
