I. PATIENT CARE & MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE
A. General
1. Perform an accurate and complete history and physical examination in a patient with a respiratory disorder and summarize pertinent findings
2. Review and analyze laboratory, radiographic, and procedural results, and use these results to make independent medical decisions
3. Demonstrate basic knowledge of the approaches to diagnosis and management of patients with respiratory disorders
4. Participate in discussions of differential diagnosis by synthesizing the patient history, presentation, physical findings and study results
5. Demonstrate a basic understanding of respiratory anatomy, physiology and the pathophysiology of respiratory disorders
6. Know when to refer a patient for Pulmonary consultation
7. Actively participate in clinical decision making
II. Practice-Based Learning & IMPROVEMENT
a. Regularly evaluate self-performance and attend to pertinent identified deficiencies
b. Set learning and improvement goals
c. Participate in the education of patients, families, students, residents and other health professionals
d. Use technology to access patient information and scientific literature, to assist with practice-based learning and improvement
e. Be open to feedback and constructive criticism, in order to improve daily practice
III. SYSTEMS-BASED PRACTICE
a. Advocate for enhanced patient safety and improved patient care quality
b. Demonstrate cost-effective health care practices, and understand the balance of treatment and procedure benefits versus costs
