Prefer students who have taken the 3rd year Otolaryngology Specialty Clerkship and have taken (or are planning to complete) the 4th year, 4-week Otolaryngology ICE Elective.
PRIOR TO THE BEGINNING OF RESEARCH ROTATION:
1)
Two (2) months prior to
the start of the rotation,
ALL students enrolled in a
research rotation must contact both Dr. Reena Dhanda-Patil at
reenadhanda1@gmail.com and Dr. Ashley Soaper at ashley.soaper@cchmc.org Any student making contact less than 2 months
from the start of the rotation will be
at
risk for having the rotation dropped. The following information
must
be included in your initial correspondence:
A brief description (1-2
paragraphs) of the intended project; including,
(1) The attending(s) and other
vital research personnel with whom you will work with
(2) Research topic
(3) The status of IRB submission
(if not previously approved)
(a)
NOTE: IRB approval should be
achieved 6-8 weeks prior to your research rotation to provide adequate time for
project planning and completion
(4) Have a week-by-week
schedule indicating allocation of time for research including how time will be
spent and the estimated dates of completion for each part/section of your
project
(5) List of research rotation
goals relative to publications, poster presentation, or oral presentation at
national meetings.
2) ALL students enrolled in a
research rotation are required to contact the attending with whom he or she is
working with to determine if they are starting a new IRB or added to an
existing IRB.
a) If IRB needs approval or
CITI training (required), it
MUST be completed prior to
the first day of rotation.

to assist you in determining the requirements and necessary steps for
participation in the research rotation.
c) IRB approval can take 2
months, or longer. CITI training can take up to 4 hours – please plan
accordingly.
3) All students must
contact the attending or other research personnel prior to the start of the
rotation to determine where he or she should report on the first day of the
rotation
