Your day will begin with rounds in the morning, followed by time in the OR or clinic/office setting.
Wednesday morning from 7:00 till 8:00 is Otolaryngology Grand Rounds for everyone.
Wednesday mornings from 8:00 till 9:30 is the resident lecture series - all medical students on rotation will attend.
Medical students are required to take call twice. Calls are in-house and the call schedule dates can be arranged with the resident team once on the rotation.
1.) one weekend 24-hour call scheduled on either a Friday or Saturday so that way you have the next day off e.g., Saturday or Sunday.
2.) one weekday overnight call (night float) scheduled during the week on a day that you are not rotating at the VA the following day as you will be off the following day after the night float call ends.
There is opportunity to shadow faculty during outpatient and clinical activities through scheduled arrangements with administrative assistants. Students will be paired with a faculty mentor during the week on CCHMC ENT service and another during one week spent on one of the other three main services (General ENT, Head and Neck, or Otology).
A sample week schedule is not provided as it changes from day to day and can involve any combination of rounds, inpatient consults, outpatient clinics and OR time.
