3. To distinguish the medical diagnoses that can be confused with abuse.
4. To learn about community abuse prevention and mental health resources.
5. To learn the mandatory reporting laws and processes.
6. Understand the basic structure, mandates, and goals of the child welfare system (i.e. state vs. county administered systems,goals of safety, permanency, and well-being) 7. To appraise and deal effectively with the ethical issues surrounding abuse.
8. Identify who can provide consent for children in protective custody to receive medical care (i.e. emergency care, routine medical care, surgical care, and medical care for a child of a minor in protective custody)
9. Learning the basics of the trauma informed care approach in medicine.
