Research Project
Students will choose and complete a research project of historical relevance that provides a unique perspective or original view point on events in medical/surgical history. In most cases, the research will begin with a chronological overview of the events but will quickly mature to discuss a specific aspect of history in a unique and original way. By project's conclusion, the student shall submit an outline of a thesis that may progress to a manuscript suitable for peer-reviewed publication. An abstract of the research topic must be submitted to complete the course.
Topics for historical review include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Biographies of important figures in medicine and surgery (famous or infamous)
· History of specialty programs or universities that serve as landmarks of medicine and surgery
· History of specific device developments
· History of descriptions of anatomic structures or groups of structures
· History of specialty training
· History of the development of surgical procedures
· History of medicine and surgery (specialties) in specific countries
· History of military medicine and surgery
