Students usually come in and pre-round (look up patients in EPIC) before table rounds.
Table rounds usually start around 8:30 AM and include sit down rounds with all team members (Attending Physician, Fellows, Residents, Students, and Nurse Practitioners) discussing all patients and planning bedside rounds.
Bedside rounds follow table rounds and include the team going to see patients and discuss with patients with primary teams.
From 11:00 to 11:15 AM daily on weekdays, we do to the Microbiology lab to discuss new culture results from the previous 24 hours.
Throughout the day as new consult orders come in, the students will be assigned new consult patients to see, obtain histories, and do physical examinations. Students will present new consults to the team and the other team members, including the Attending, will do with the student to see the patient. Management plans will be developed which will be communicated in person or by telephone to the primary team and also written as a consult note in EPIC.
Students will write daily progess notes on patients as directed by the Attending Physician.
On Wednesdays at 12:00 PM-1 PM, students are invited to attend our weekly ID division case conferences where we discuss interesting cases and review the literature on current ID questions.
